Read and Listen Lists:
I'm not too sure how this will work. I'm going to post some of my recent reads, and also post links to interesting audio files
I find online. Hopefully, over time, the collection will become interesting. |

Reads:
Jun 25, 04 - "Modern French Philosophy (From Existentialism to Postmodernism) by Robert Wicks"
I like this book in general. The section on Derrida is good. But, the section on Foucault seems more like a section on
Heidegger in an excuse for a lack of understanding on Foucault. I can understand not understanding Foucault, or simply not having
the time to read Foucault. But, generically putting Foucault between Heidegger and Hegel, or whatever, is not right. Otherwise,
the book is OK.
Jun 18, 04 - "Wittgenstien's Poker"
As my car was dead in a parking lot across the road from an outlet mall in New Hampshire, I found a bookstore and
read this book about the debate/fight between Wittgenstien and Popper. I'd recommend it.
Mar 13, 04 - Husserl's "Logical Investigations, Vol 1"
Mar 13, 04 - Hill and Haddock's "Husserl or Frege? Meaning, Objectivity, and Mathematics"
I'm currently very interested in Husserl's development between 1894 and 1900, and his rejection of psychologism.
I'm therefore concentrating on the "Logical Investigations" and secondary sources relating to both Frege and Husserl in
this time frame.
Mar 13, 04 - Heyting's "Intuitionism: An Introduction"
Also reading this as part of my independent study logic topics with Dr. Schilling. It is interesting so far.
Heyting takes many of the standard theorems of analysis and constructs their intuitionistic versions.
Mar 13, 04 - Ranta's "Type Theoretical Grammar"
Also reading this as part of my independent study logic topics with Dr. Schilling. We are currently concentrating
more on the Heyting book. I hope to devote more time to Ranta's work in the next few weeks, or after the term is over.
Jan 22, 04 - Kierkegaard's "Fear and Trembling"
My brother bought me this book for Christmas. I've only covered the introduction as of right now, but it
is already very interesting and looking very promising.
Jan 12, 04 - Per Martin-Löf's "On the Meanings of the Logical Constants and the Justifications of the Logical Laws"
I'm reading this as part of my independent study in logic. We're currently researching intuitionism. I like
the layout of this three-lecture transcribed article.
Jan 11, 04 - Poincare's "Foundations of Science"
I'm reading this as part of my independent study in physics, relating formal/differential geometries to
general and special relativity.
Jan 11, 04 - Nick Huggett's "Space From Zeno to Einstein"
I'm reading this as part of my independent study in physics, relating formal/differential geometries to
general and special relativity.
Jan 06, 04 - Baudrillard's "Simulacra and Simulation"
This is the French poststructural / nihilist book on which the movie "The Matrix" is based. My brother
gave me this book for my birthday back in November.
Dec 20, 03 - Foucault's "Abnormal"
Foucault's second set of lectures from the College de France are recently published. I'm getting much
more out of them than the first published set of lectures.
